A temporary stay and work permit is granted if the objective of the alien's stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland is to perform work. The above mentioned permit is granted if the circumstances that are the basis for applying for this permit justify the alien's stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland for a period longer than 3 months. The alien shall submit an application for a temporary stay permit in person, not later than on the last day of their legal stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland. If the application for the permit was not submitted by the alien in person, the voivode requests their personal appearance within 7 days, otherwise the application will not be processed. When submitting an application for a temporary stay permit, the alien shall leave their fingerprints in order to obtain the residence card. Aliens who are less than 6 years old or for whom leaving fingerprints is physically impossible, do not fall under the above obligation. If an alien does not leave their fingerprints in order to obtain the residence card, although they are obliged to it, the proceedings to grant the alien a temporary stay permit are not initiated. If the deadline for application submission was met and there is no information missing from the application or the information missing was provided on time, the alien's stay is considered legal from the day the application was submitted, until the day when the final decision regarding this case is made. If the proceedings related with granting a temporary stay permit are suspended on the alien's request, their stay during this time shall not be deemed legal. NOTE: Having a stamp in their travel document does not entitle the alien to travel to the territories of other countries of the Schengen Area, however, the alien can travel to their country of origin. A temporary stay permit is granted for a period needed to achieve the objective of the alien's stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland, however, not longer than 3 years. An alien staying on the territory of the Republic of Poland based on a temporary stay and work permit, notifies in writing the voivode having authority in the alien's current place of residence, within 15 working days, about losing a job at any of the entities listed in the permit and commissioning work to the alien. The United States is currently engaged in a military effort that has been characterized as the “long war.” The long war has been described by some as an epic struggle against adversaries bent on forming a unified Islamic world to supplant western dominance, while others describe it more narrowly as an extension of the war on terror. But while policymakers, military leaders, and scholars have offered numerous definitions of the long war, no consensus has been reached about this term or its implications for the United States. To understand the impacts that this long war will have on the U.S. Army and on U.S. Forces in general, it is necessary to understand more precisely what the long war is and how it might unfold over the coming years. To address this need, this study explores the concept of the long war and identifies potential ways in which it might unfold as well as the implications for the Army and the U.S. Military more generally. This report uses the generation of either “trajectories” or alternative paths in which the long war might unfold to explore the implications for the U.S. The discussion focuses on the potential threats the U.S. Faces in each trajectory and considers the confluence of three major problems raised by the war: those related to the ideologies espoused by key adversaries in the conflict, those related to the use of terrorism, and those related to governance (i.e., its absence or presence, its quality, and the predisposition of specific governing bodies to the United States and its interests). The goal of this report is not to determine which of these areas is the key problem. Instead, we take the stance that in order to ensure that this long war follows a favorable course, the United States will need to make a concerted effort across all three domains. ![]() Numerous broad conclusions and recommendations are given for addressing issues surrounding the long war.
